Bush, Kerry just one point apart in new poll
AFP, October, 2004
WASHINGTON (AFP) US President George W. Bush was just one point ahead of Democratic challenger John Kerry in a new poll, leaving both candidates locked in a statistical dead heat.
Bush took 49 percent against Kerry’s 48 percent in the tracking poll by ABC News, which shares the polling data with The Washington Post newspaper but conducts a separate analysis that sometimes leads to different results.
But 55 percent of likely voters say they expect Bush to win a second term in the November 2 election, the poll found.
The tracking poll, being conducted daily until election day, had given Bush a five-point lead for most of the last week
